With our follow up to our best-selling dash cams, the Rexing V1 and V1P, we wanted to ensure they were incorporating the latest technology, while still maintaining their competitive low prices. In 2017, we released the second generation of both products. At first glance, you might not be able to tell what was changed in the V1 or the V1P since their first generation models, released in 2015 and 2016 respectively. This is because we didn’t change much cosmetically, opting to retain our sleek, discreet design. We decided to improve on our dash cams in the most important way you could improve a camera, by upgrading the camera sensor technology. The camera sensor determines how your camera perceives light in order to capture and store it in the form of digital imagery, so it’s important that our dash cams are fitted with sensors that allow them to capture the best quality photos and videos possible.

In developing the second generation of the Rexing V1 and V1P, we worked with Sony to implement their 1/2.9” Exmor IMX323 CMOS Image Sensor into the frame of our dash cams. As to not compromise the lightweight design of our cameras, the IMX323 is a thin, compact sensor. This is accomplished through the use of WLCSP, or Wafer Level Chip Size Package technology, to cut down on the thickness and overall presence of the technology. With the slimmed form factor of the IMX323 sensor, more is possible for our cameras than was previously thought possible. In the past, a camera sensor using similar technology would have only been available for use in larger camera bodies, such as DSLRs. Thanks to the Sony IMX323, such technology has been made compact enough to be expertly fitted to the frames of the Rexing V1 and V1P.

The tightly-packed form of the Sony IMX323 sensor is a truly impressive feat, but what attracted us to the sensor lies in the benefits it provides to our cameras. The IMX323 allows the cameras to capture a stunning 2.07 million pixels at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. This can be done using our Full HD camera resolution setting, recording video with a resolution of 1920×1080 (1080p). Still, what really sets our dash cams apart from many others is the ability of the sensor to capture video in low-light environments, such as when driving at night. Our dash cams are intended to watch the road whenever you’re behind the wheel, and we don’t feel you should have to worry that you aren’t capturing sufficient quality images while driving at night. It’s important to us in designing our products that they are equipped to record in every environment, and in every situation. The ability to do so is a fantastic benefit the IMX323 offers our current generation V1 and V1P.

We understand how important it is that your dash cam is reliable, which is why we’ve #GotYouCovered so that you may #KeepDriving with your full attention on the road. Our implementation of the Sony IMX323 sensor is just one advancement of many that we’ve made to our products in recent history, and we don’t plan on stopping there. We’re always looking for new ways to improve on our dash cams to ensure they stay at the top of their class. It’s important to stay connected with us so that you may learn about our new products, as well as any improvements we make to our existing cameras. Social media is vital for this purpose, and we are making an effort to be a bigger presence than ever on apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. We’re also using social media to respond to any inquiries you may have about our products, company, and services. We want to hear from you whenever possible to help build on our strong community of dash cam users. We also wish to introduce more drivers to the immense benefits that our cameras can offer them. Regardless of your experience with dash cams, we hope you learned something new today, and we can’t wait to put out more content!
